Open Post: Who invented this calendar anyway?

How unfortunate.

Yes, Grantaire was fully aware that the year being longer at the mansion would logically cause seasons to drift when someone kept track of the old calendar, or at least what had been pinned down as the old calendar for convenience sake, which was almost necessary when people's arrivals weren't necessarily tied to the day they left. He hadn't given it too much thought last year, when his birthday, such that it was, arrived in spring like he was used to.

Dark, though, was unfortunate. Not inappropriate for the next notable anniversary coming up, but for this one, not at all. Of course, it wasn't as if he would have been planning much in the way of an event, Dark or no, but it would have been nice to treat himself to something or other, regardless.

Instead, he has installed himself in the game room, where he is carefully balancing dominoes on their ends to make a domino rally on the billiards table. It's a nice large flat surface, so it should work nicely. Have to keep entertained somehow.

"Yes. As any of the most important cakes in history naturally would be."

"I wonder if Xie Lian would like it."

[futaille]

"Truly, I would not be surprised."

[sagramore]

Sagramore affects a position of prayer, fork in his clasped hands. "O mansion spirits, send him to us--"

Xie Lian enters the kitchen, looking faintly surprised. "Oh, hello," he says, giving both Sagramore and Grantaire a bobbed little bow. "Have you noticed everything seems to be staying put lately?"

[futaille]

Grantaire looks both surprised and delighted by the amazingly fortunate timing. "Hello! And yes, it's an artifact of the month. It should be back to normal soon."

[sagramore]

He gasps, shaking his hands towards the ceiling. "I'm loved! I'm favored! --Did you know it's Etienne's birthday?"

[scrap_collector]

"Oh!" Xie Lian clasps his hands and smiles at Grantaire. "Congratulations, young master--if I'd known, I would have scrounged to see what coin I could put together for you. But then, what would you do with it if I had? Have you all come up with other traditions, for birthdays?"

[futaille]

"Ah, thank you! It seems we've taken to baking cake for the celebrant, like they do in Germany."

[sagramore]

"Yes, that's a long and storied tradition, actually. Would you like some of the cake? Sharing is traditional, too."
