Open Post: Who invented this calendar anyway?

How unfortunate.

Yes, Grantaire was fully aware that the year being longer at the mansion would logically cause seasons to drift when someone kept track of the old calendar, or at least what had been pinned down as the old calendar for convenience sake, which was almost necessary when people's arrivals weren't necessarily tied to the day they left. He hadn't given it too much thought last year, when his birthday, such that it was, arrived in spring like he was used to.

Dark, though, was unfortunate. Not inappropriate for the next notable anniversary coming up, but for this one, not at all. Of course, it wasn't as if he would have been planning much in the way of an event, Dark or no, but it would have been nice to treat himself to something or other, regardless.

Instead, he has installed himself in the game room, where he is carefully balancing dominoes on their ends to make a domino rally on the billiards table. It's a nice large flat surface, so it should work nicely. Have to keep entertained somehow.

"Good. There will be plenty of birthdays to go through."

[vineleaves]

A kiss. “And if I run out of songs I’ll just start making some up.”

[futaille]

"I'll look forward to hearing them, then."

He had stopped crying, but now he starts up again. “I love you so much.”

[futaille]

A little smile and he gives Dionysus a kiss. "I love you too."

[vineleaves]

He kisses back and then starts singing, "So please be sweet, my chickadee. And when I kiss you, just say to me, 'It's delightful, it's delicious, it's de-lovely¹...'"



1. No clue how this is going to translate for poor R, because google has just informed me that the French word 'délicieux' can mean not only 'delightful' but also 'delicious' and, you guessed it, 'lovely'.

A little laugh. "I like the repetition on that one."

Dionysus pauses, then says, “Oh, they all got translated as ‘délicieux’, didn’t they… They’re different words in English.”

[futaille]

"Well, to be fully accurate, the last was dé-délicieux."

[vineleaves]

"Oh yeah, that makes sense. In English the first two both start with 'de', but the last word doesn't, so it's added on to fit." He kisses Grantaire, then suddenly rolls over and fishes a little notepad and pen out of his nightstand. "So, okay, springtime," he says, writing down notes. "in my garden, not overly formal -- I'll ask Mercutio if he wants to be in it tomorrow when I let him know the news, I would like for him to be my best man or bridesmaid or ... flower girl, or whatever he wants to do."

Grantaire blinks a few times as the notebook makes its appearance. He knew in the abstract that weddings would require a good deal of planning, but to actually be confronted with the reality of it is something else entirely. "Clearly. Whatever you'd like, of course."

[vineleaves]

"Do you know who you want for yours?"

[futaille]

He shakes his head. "I haven't even thought about it, to be honest."
