Open Post: Who invented this calendar anyway?

How unfortunate.

Yes, Grantaire was fully aware that the year being longer at the mansion would logically cause seasons to drift when someone kept track of the old calendar, or at least what had been pinned down as the old calendar for convenience sake, which was almost necessary when people's arrivals weren't necessarily tied to the day they left. He hadn't given it too much thought last year, when his birthday, such that it was, arrived in spring like he was used to.

Dark, though, was unfortunate. Not inappropriate for the next notable anniversary coming up, but for this one, not at all. Of course, it wasn't as if he would have been planning much in the way of an event, Dark or no, but it would have been nice to treat himself to something or other, regardless.

Instead, he has installed himself in the game room, where he is carefully balancing dominoes on their ends to make a domino rally on the billiards table. It's a nice large flat surface, so it should work nicely. Have to keep entertained somehow.

"Are you trying to impress me?"

[sagramore]

"Always."

[futaille]

"Shouldn't be too difficult. You usually do."

[sagramore]

"Well, thou hast not had thy cake yet. Let's see, canst thou find me flour, sugar, cocoa powder, leavening, and a loaf of stale bread?"

[futaille]

"We'll see how well the kitchen accommodates me." He heads to start rooting through the cabinets.

Sagramore, meanwhile, goes for mayonnaise and white chocolate chips, and vanilla; he does trust that the ingredients from the jars, at minimum, will be easy to find.

The loaf of stale bread is, at least, fairly easy to come by, and after a bit more digging, Grantaire does in fact find the rest of the ingredients. Although none of them come in full packages, the quantities left should at least be sufficient for Sagramore's purposes.

"Good dog," Sagramore says, fondly. "How old art thou turning?"

[futaille]

"Oh." He thinks it over, not having really considered it. "Twenty-nine, I think? I was born in '05, came here in '32, and this is my second birthday here, so I think that adds up."

[sagramore]

"Jesu, thou art such a babe. Twenty-nine cherries, then."

[futaille]

"Oh, yes, practically an infant."

[sagramore]

"Grate that bread for me, little one."

[futaille]

"Ah, the responsibility!" He tracks down a grater and starts in on the bread.

[sagramore]

"Last year I gave thee Jared, didn't I? That's going to be hard to top."

[futaille]

He laughs. "You did. I have to remember where I left him last."

[sagramore]

"What's he wearing now?"

[futaille]

"I found a mermaid costume, so that. Maybe when I track him down again, I should have Kade make something bespoke."

[sagramore]

"Oh, that does sound fetching! And Kade always likes a project."

[futaille]

"It would fit him better than anything he's ever worn."

[sagramore]

"It must be hard to choose outfits for a man who's so slender."

[futaille]

"It's tricky! It needs a bit of trial and error but I've managed so far and haven't heard a word of complaint from him."

[sagramore]

"Well, good, he should be grateful thou takest the time to be certain he's properly arrayed!"

[futaille]

"I'm sure he is. He hasn't thanked me outright, but he's a reticent man."

[sagramore]

"That's true, he's shy."

[futaille]

"Which is fine. I'm perfectly able to speak enough for the both of us."
