Open Post: Who invented this calendar anyway?

How unfortunate.

Yes, Grantaire was fully aware that the year being longer at the mansion would logically cause seasons to drift when someone kept track of the old calendar, or at least what had been pinned down as the old calendar for convenience sake, which was almost necessary when people's arrivals weren't necessarily tied to the day they left. He hadn't given it too much thought last year, when his birthday, such that it was, arrived in spring like he was used to.

Dark, though, was unfortunate. Not inappropriate for the next notable anniversary coming up, but for this one, not at all. Of course, it wasn't as if he would have been planning much in the way of an event, Dark or no, but it would have been nice to treat himself to something or other, regardless.

Instead, he has installed himself in the game room, where he is carefully balancing dominoes on their ends to make a domino rally on the billiards table. It's a nice large flat surface, so it should work nicely. Have to keep entertained somehow.

He grins. "I've appreciated a great deal of terrible wine in my time."

"I assume you're using 'appreciate' in the financial sense," Susan laughs. "I can't say I've ever truly enjoyed terrible wine, but it has been dreadfully convenient. --I suppose the same might be said of bad gin."

"A little bit of both, really. Dionysus has actually made me some of my favorite bad wines when I'm particularly nostalgic."

He nods. "I think it's all mixed in a little bit, yes."

"I suppose there's something to be said for the terrible decisions one might make under the influence of terrible alcohol," says Susan, and when she toasts Grantaire with her glass, there's nothing in her eyes but fond amusement.

Grantaire laughs. "It's the best reason for the best bad decisions," he says, lifting his own glass and shooting her a wink.

The look in her eyes shades into something a little more intent. "Though I must say," sipping from her glass, "I don't think nostalgia alone shall be enough to ever send me back into the grasping arms of coconut rum."

His eyebrows rise just a bit. "Nostalgia alone implies that there is at least something that would induce you to return to that tropical embrace, though."

"I imagine there's a great many things that would cause a person to engage in any number of ill-advised behaviors," says Susan. "Perhaps drinking coconut rum might somehow be the only way to, to - to save a basket of kittens from a dread demon."

"Or to suddenly give a basket of kittens out of the blue to Crowley."

At that, Susan leans forward, eyes gleaming. "Grantaire," she says. "Perhaps you're the man for the job - do you recall the day we were all of us children again?"

He looks intrigued. "Yes. Not every detail, but yes. Why?"

"Very good. Have you noticed the chore charts posted about the Mansion? At the Welcome Table, the greenhouse doors, and several of the bars?"

"I might have seen some in passing. Please tell me I'm not on them without knowing."

"Oh, yes, but I regularly give you the task of ensuring the bars are fully stocked or the cafe has got fresh coffee, things someone might reasonably assume you're handling when you're just going about your day. Don't worry, it's all a farce. When I was a child, I scolded Crowley for ignoring the chore chart - which, as a child, I assume existed. Naturally I had to devise one as an adult. Crowley keeps to it still."

He absolutely adores everything about this if his laugh is any indication. "Magnificent!"

"So your job, should you choose to take it on, is to help me devise new chores to add to his rotation. He hates doing dishes so I do try to only assign those once a month or so. He's absolutely pants at cleaning out the gutters, and comical whilst dusting."
