Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"Okay, what's that?"

"Small pastry flavored with vanilla and rum."

[kadewest]

"Would you say the texture is more tres leches or danish?"

[futaille]

"I have no idea! But I'm going to say danish because it's funnier under the circumstances."

Kade had selected the touchpoints with the hope they'd be unfamiliar to Grantaire; now, he grins, and tries for another kick. "Fantastic."

Grantaire does register the kick before it connects, but not enough to get fully out of the way, and Kade does manage a glancing blow. "Ah, well-played."

"Just doing my best," Kade laughs.

[futaille]

"Talking is, in fact, my greatest weakness."

[kadewest]

"And you know what they say about battle," Kade says, circling again. "Take advantage of your enemy's weaknesses."

[futaille]

"And you've successfully managed to do so. Well--" he goes for another kick in between words-- "done."

[kadewest]

"Oh, I was an exceptional child soldier. Fairies loved me. Goblins dreaded me."

[futaille]

"Is that the kind of thing that gets congratulations?"

[kadewest]

"Nah," says Kade, circling again, then trying a kick. "Turns out the fairies were all dicks."

[futaille]

He slides away and returns a kick of his own. "Hard luck."

[kadewest]

Kade shrugs it off, dodging the kick at the same time. He loses in his balance in the process, and has to pull off a careful twist to keep from falling. "Well, fuck."

[futaille]

That's a clear sign to attempt to take advantage of Kade's uneven footing and he goes for another kick.

[kadewest]

It hits! Kade straightens up and takes a few steps back, shaking out the ache. "Nice one."

[futaille]

Grantaire stays at the ready. "Thank you very much."

[kadewest]

"It's like you have a lot more experience with this kinda fighting than me, or something."

[futaille]

"What a fascinating theory."

[kadewest]

"Well-grounded in the scientific method, I assure you," Kade says. He's still stretching out. "I didn't develop the hypothesis until I made a fuckton of observations."

[futaille]

"Very diligent of you. Impressive."

[kadewest]

"The perils of the job," Kade laughs, doing one final stretch and then getting back into position.

[futaille]

"Your diligence is truly your greatest advantage in this particular matchup."

[kadewest]

"You think?"
