Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"Oh, that goes without saying," he says with a laugh. "A person who actually takes advantage of even half the opportunities provided to them is extraordinarily rare."

"I'd love to hear you opine on toaster strudel next." This is an attempt at distraction! Kade is looking for an opening.

He knows fully well what Kade is doing, but it is hard to resist the siren song of blather. He stays on guard as best he can, but still responds. "Those would be those flat pastries that come boxed?"

[kadewest]

"One of the varieties, sure." Kade may seem blasé, totally relaxed, but his eyes are sharp.

[futaille]

"I should explore the others. Although my general opinion is that I prefer actual fresh pastries." He goes in for another kick.

[papadopoulos]

"Yeah. Maybe I'll teach you sometime, if you're interested."

[futaille]

"I'd be delighted! Always happy to learn a new game."

[kadewest]

This time, Kade manages to evade! "What's your favorite?"

[futaille]

Grantaire grins as Kade evades. "Ah, see, that depends on who's making it, and also on my mood at the time, but you're asking now, so I should judge on my mood now, and therefore I'll say a canelé."

[kadewest]

"Okay, what's that?"

[futaille]

"Small pastry flavored with vanilla and rum."

[kadewest]

"Would you say the texture is more tres leches or danish?"

[futaille]

"I have no idea! But I'm going to say danish because it's funnier under the circumstances."

[kadewest]

Kade had selected the touchpoints with the hope they'd be unfamiliar to Grantaire; now, he grins, and tries for another kick. "Fantastic."

[futaille]

Grantaire does register the kick before it connects, but not enough to get fully out of the way, and Kade does manage a glancing blow. "Ah, well-played."

[kadewest]

"Just doing my best," Kade laughs.

[futaille]

"Talking is, in fact, my greatest weakness."

[kadewest]

"And you know what they say about battle," Kade says, circling again. "Take advantage of your enemy's weaknesses."

[futaille]

"And you've successfully managed to do so. Well--" he goes for another kick in between words-- "done."

[papadopoulos]

"Yeah? You a big games guy?"

[futaille]

"I like entertainment."

[kadewest]

"Oh, I was an exceptional child soldier. Fairies loved me. Goblins dreaded me."

[futaille]

"Is that the kind of thing that gets congratulations?"

[kadewest]

"Nah," says Kade, circling again, then trying a kick. "Turns out the fairies were all dicks."

[futaille]

He slides away and returns a kick of his own. "Hard luck."
