Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"People are different. What would look amazing on one of them might not be suitable for another. Or even if it's something that would look wonderful on someone, if they don't like it and don't feel confident in it, it ruins the effect."

"Wanna give me a compare and contrast?" Kade isn't going to specify Sagramore, obviously; that's meant to be a surprise.

"For everyone?" He shrugs. "I suppose I'll start by saying that I probably have a slight bias for the fashions of my own time, although it also goes back to what I said about whoever is wearing it feeling comfortable. If they don't like it, my bias doesn't matter because it won't sit well on them. You've already made me walk into furniture with Lancelot, so that's sorted. Next, I'll already say that Claudius is so exacting in his own specifications for what he wears that he looks absolutely marvelous in whatever he decides to put on and absolutely nothing I could conceive of would suit him better than what he decides on. Of course, they all look good in whatever they wear," he pauses and grins, "or nothing at all... but he takes it to an art form. Enjolras is stunning in formal wear, especially when he actually opts for color. I think Sagramore would look stunning in a well-tailored waistcoat, maybe with a fabric that has some texture to it, and actually I think the same might go for Laertes. It stands to reason, they are exceptionally well-suited. Dionysus would be remarkable in just about anything as bold and enthusiastic as he is. Bright colors, interesting patterns, and the like. How likely is it that this conversation is going to come back to haunt me at least once?"

Kade laughs. "I'm not in the business of haunting," he assures Grantaire. "Just a simple old tailor, me."

"I'm sure tailors are perfectly capable of haunting if given the opportunity."

[kadewest]

"I suppose I could fashion a bedsheet into a ghost costume and jump out at you."

[futaille]

"You certainly could do that. I'm sure it would be the best ghost costume the world has ever seen."

[kadewest]

Kade laughs. "Tell you what," he says. "If I decide to get into the business of that kind of haunting, I'll make you one too. I'll even give you bargain rates for it."

Grantaire absolutely grins at that. "Oh, I can already think of so many possibilities."

[kadewest]

"Though I also get the feeling that you, of all people here, are well-equipped to pay my prices."

[futaille]

"There's a sentence I have never before heard in my life."

[kadewest]

"I trade in stories."

[futaille]

"Ah! Well, I am certainly quite good at talking although whether or not I can muster anything close to a coherent narrative is certainly a matter for debate."

[kadewest]

Kade laughs again. "I have every faith," he assures Grantaire, clapping him on the shoulder.

[futaille]

"How incredibly heartening."

[kadewest]

"Come by any time, I'll do you up right."

[futaille]

"Absolutely. Just upstairs, right?"

[kadewest]

"The very top!"

[futaille]

"Easy enough, then, thank you. I'll make sure to bring a supply of stories with me."

[kadewest]

"Perfect," grinning. "And maybe some more of... this stuff."

[futaille]

He laughs. "If you mean the savate, I'll do my best not to leave my legs behind."

[kadewest]

With a laugh, Kade says, "Suppose that would make it pretty hard to get up to the attic."

[futaille]

"I would make an attempt, at least. But keeping them simplifies things greatly."

[kadewest]

"Good man."

[futaille]

"So it's been said, here and there."
