Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

He takes the glass and has a long drink from it, draining it halfway almost immediately. "Perfect."

[vineleaves]

Dionysus finishes off the last of his own kykeon, then refills his glass with the same wine he just gave Grantaire and similarly has a long sip of it as well. “Easier to drink, that’s for sure.”

[futaille]

"I'm no expert," he remarks before finishing the glass, "but it may be the lack of cheese."

[vineleaves]

“Are you sure?” He asks, a giggle creeping its way into his voice. “But cheese is normally so easy to drink!” He finishes his glass as well, then refills both.

[futaille]

He would undoubtedly make a 'no whey' joke here if it worked in French, but it doesn't, which is a shame. "It depends on the cheese, I suppose."

[vineleaves]

“And whether or not it’s melted. Oh — I should’ve gotten us snackies from a kitchen before we came in here.” He’s thinking about nachos.

[futaille]

"If you'd like to go get snacks, you can." He has another drink.

[vineleaves]

“Don’t want to leave you alone if you’re still hallucinating.”

[futaille]

"I'll be fine. Your face is mostly where it should be now."

[vineleaves]

“I’ll go in a few minutes when everything is back to normal, okay?”

[futaille]

"But snacks sound nice. It's not as if I haven't hallucinated alone before. I've had cheap absinthe."

[vineleaves]

“I’m not leaving you alone while you’re hallucinating,” he says. Nothing’s ever guaranteed to not suddenly turn sour, even if he’s almost through it all. Dionysus knows better than most people how bad hallucinations can be, albeit for different reasons. Thanks Hera. “We can wait and I’ll go get snacks in a few minutes, or I can make you stop hallucinating and go get some right now.”

"It's up to you, I suppose. I still think I'd be fine, though."

[vineleaves]

“Let me fret, okay?” He says, running a hand through Grantaire’s hair. “Anyway, we haven’t even talked about what snackies we want yet, this is a very big decision that will need a lot of discussion, you might be over the kykeon by the time that happens anyway.”

[futaille]

"A meat and cheese plate sounds nice," he says, finishing up his glass of wine as he leans into Dionysus's hand.

[vineleaves]

He keeps his hand in Grantaire’s hair, scratching lightly at his scalp. “Ooh, that does sound good. I assume cheese of the non-drinkable variety? Otherwise it’s be a meat and cheese bowl, I guess.”

[futaille]

"Yes. Not a cheese soup."

[vineleaves]

“So - non-liquified cheese. What else would you like?”

[futaille]

"I don't know. You've traveled a lot. Something I wouldn't have been able to have at home but wouldn't have known to ask for here."

[vineleaves]

"Ooh, that's a good idea." Then after a pause, he adds, "We should have, y'know, weekly nights where we have dinner with food from around the world. Since I can't actually take you to all these places. I mean, doesn't have to be weekly, but -- just, whenever we can."

[futaille]

"That would be nice, I think. I liked Wanderers Gather."

[vineleaves]

"I'm so sad I missed that."

[futaille]

"There will be more celebrations."

[vineleaves]

"There better be, you know how much I like a party." He smiles. The thought of having International Food Nights with Étienne regularly almost makes him want to cry. He knows it's not going to be anywhere near the same as actually traveling with him, and it's probably going to be frustratingly limited, but if this is as close as he can get to sharing the world with Étienne then he'll happily take the chance.

"Of course. Which is how I know there are going to be more celebrations, because even if there weren't going to be any, you would surely change that."
