Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

It's not the most solid of hits, but Kade does manage a decent connection on that one. "Oh, well done." He steps back. "I'd be happy to continue."

"Thank you."

[futaille]

"Oh, do you not get your proper credit frequently enough for your liking?"

[kadewest]

"Oh, absolutely," says Kade. "But--maybe another day?"

[futaille]

He nods. "Whenever you'd like."

[kadewest]

Kade gets out of his stance and starts stretching again. "Oh, my schedule's wide open," he says, and then pauses and amends, "aside from making a million outfits for the wedding. My schedule is mostly open."

[futaille]

"I'm impressed. That's definitely at least five outfits for everyone here."

[kadewest]

"Something like. And twenty for Claudius," Kade laughs. It will be extremely clear to Grantaire from his tone that he's not complaining. He is, in fact, thrilled to have so much to do.

[futaille]

He laughs. "That sounds about right, yes."

[papadopoulos]

"These days? Not so much." He's joking, mostly. "But it's worth it to hear the songs and poems people can come up with if I hang around with them enough."

[kadewest]

"You want one, too?"

[futaille]

"So, is just being in your general vicinity enough to make someone a master, then?"

[futaille]

"Would it not cut into Claudius's twenty outfits?"

[kadewest]

"I'm a talented man, Grantaire. I can fit in one more outfit," Kade grins. "Oh, hey. I have a brain teaser for you. What kind of look would you find incapacitating in a lover?"

[futaille]

"Then by all means, add me to the list if you'd like." He pauses, thinking. "As for your question, I think it would depend on the lover."

[kadewest]

"Oh yeah? How so?"

[futaille]

"People are different. What would look amazing on one of them might not be suitable for another. Or even if it's something that would look wonderful on someone, if they don't like it and don't feel confident in it, it ruins the effect."

[kadewest]

"Wanna give me a compare and contrast?" Kade isn't going to specify Sagramore, obviously; that's meant to be a surprise.

[futaille]

"For everyone?" He shrugs. "I suppose I'll start by saying that I probably have a slight bias for the fashions of my own time, although it also goes back to what I said about whoever is wearing it feeling comfortable. If they don't like it, my bias doesn't matter because it won't sit well on them. You've already made me walk into furniture with Lancelot, so that's sorted. Next, I'll already say that Claudius is so exacting in his own specifications for what he wears that he looks absolutely marvelous in whatever he decides to put on and absolutely nothing I could conceive of would suit him better than what he decides on. Of course, they all look good in whatever they wear," he pauses and grins, "or nothing at all... but he takes it to an art form. Enjolras is stunning in formal wear, especially when he actually opts for color. I think Sagramore would look stunning in a well-tailored waistcoat, maybe with a fabric that has some texture to it, and actually I think the same might go for Laertes. It stands to reason, they are exceptionally well-suited. Dionysus would be remarkable in just about anything as bold and enthusiastic as he is. Bright colors, interesting patterns, and the like. How likely is it that this conversation is going to come back to haunt me at least once?"

[kadewest]

Kade laughs. "I'm not in the business of haunting," he assures Grantaire. "Just a simple old tailor, me."

[futaille]

"I'm sure tailors are perfectly capable of haunting if given the opportunity."

[kadewest]

"I suppose I could fashion a bedsheet into a ghost costume and jump out at you."

[futaille]

"You certainly could do that. I'm sure it would be the best ghost costume the world has ever seen."

[kadewest]

Kade laughs. "Tell you what," he says. "If I decide to get into the business of that kind of haunting, I'll make you one too. I'll even give you bargain rates for it."

[futaille]

Grantaire absolutely grins at that. "Oh, I can already think of so many possibilities."
