Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"Low kick," Kade says. This, too, is easy for him. It's not quite as pitch-perfect, but it's a very good effort indeed.

"You have them all, then."

He laughs. “Clearly. Though honestly before we know it she’ll probably be taller than me. She’s already gotten so much bigger than she was when she first showed up. I’ll be asking her for help with things from cabinets soon.”

[futaille]

"You can do that now, if you think about it. Put her on your shoulders and she can get to the really high ones."

[vineleaves]

“That’s true. A team effort.”

[futaille]

"I would also offer to sit on your shoulders, but I'm not sure how effective it would be."

[sagramore]

"Wilt have to give me more lessons in thy hand to hand combat."

[futaille]

"Oh, easy enough. Although I admit hands are less involved than feet."

[vineleaves]

"You can sit on whatever you want."

[futaille]

He laughs. "Oh, I'm sure."

[vineleaves]

He holds the bubble wrap out of the way so he can lean over and give Grantaire a kiss.

[futaille]

He returns the kiss with a smile. "We should find a hill."

[vineleaves]

Oh look, they have made it outside by now¹. "Left or right?"


1. Were they already outside? Did they just arrive? Was there a miniature time skip just now placing them outside? Who knows! Certainly not me!

[futaille]

"I'll say left."

[vineleaves]

"Perfect," and he heads left.

[futaille]

Grantaire follows, whistling as he goes.

[sagramore]

"Thy pardon. Foot to foot combat."

[kadewest]

"All right," Kade says, and gives Grantaire a wolfish grin. "So where do we start with sparring?"

[futaille]

"Foot fencing, if you will."

[futaille]

He goes to the middle of the open space in the room. "A few feet apart, obviously," he says wryly. "I'll even give you first strike."

[sagramore]

"Christ, I wish I could hold a sword with my feet."

[futaille]

"I'm sure it would be possible to modify a sword to make it feasible. Although it would still be awkward."

[sagramore]

"Just imagine, though," dreamily. In front of them, the durian and canvas are slowly smoldering to ash -- slowly, because the smashed fruit is still pretty wet.

[futaille]

"That could be on our coat of arms. A foot wielding a sword."

[sagramore]

"Should the durian go on as well?"
