Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"Precisely!" He slips one of them on. "I can hold his holy spikiness for a moment while you settle yours."

[futaille]

He nods. "First is the fouetté, the whip kick." He lifts his leg sideways, bent at the knee with his shin facing the bag, kicking it forward to hit it with the top of his foot.

"Where shall we head to?" he asks as he gets up. His back pops in three different places.

[futaille]

Grantaire immediately rolls to flop flat on the ground. "There we are. And it's close."

[vineleaves]

Dionysus laughs. "This works!" He lies down beside Grantaire. His back only pops twice this time.

[futaille]

He laughs as well, delighted. "I didn't think you'd actually join me."

[sagramore]

"My thanks." He passes the pillow over solemnly before getting into his robe.

[futaille]

He holds the pillow with all due reverence and solemnity.

[lightbearinglord]

"It is possible to remedy that." Primarily to prove that he can exercise restraint, Lan Wangji draws his hand back and gives the punching bag another, gentler tap with his open palm.

[futaille]

"Handstands and reasonable force, coexisting in the same person? This seems nearly impossible!"

[sagramore]

"All right, I'm ready. Actually -- should I take the canvas outside for thee, and thou mount the stairs to the window?"

[futaille]

"Are you certain? I know you were quite moved by the honor of being the fruitbearer."

[sagramore]

"I was, but otherwise thou wilt have to take the canvas down and then run back up three flights of stairs to hurl the godhead."

[futaille]

"Or we both solemnly partake in a procession down and back up. Ceremonially."

[sagramore]

"Thou dost not think a squirrel will make off with the unguarded canvas?"

[futaille]

"The great one will not allow that to happen. This is a ceremony, after all."

[sagramore]

"Thy faith is stronger than mine. If only I could be like thee."

[futaille]

He extends the pillow toward Sagramore. "Please. The honor is yours."

[sagramore]

"Very well." He takes the pillow back with a great deal of reverence. "Do thou lead us."

[futaille]

He nods and solemnly picks up a quite large canvas, large enough, in fact, to be a certain squirrel deterrent. He holds in in front of himself and proceeds out the door.

[sagramore]

Sagramore follows him, careful not to tip the durian off its pillow.

[lightbearinglord]

"Perhaps the cultivation is responsible," Lan Wangji suggests. It is just a little dry.

[futaille]

Grantaire walks at a steady and solemn pace, which has the side effect of making it easier for Sagramore to keep the durian in place. The first few times they turn, he's very tempted to burst in to giggles, but manages to keep a straight face through the entry hall and outside.

[futaille]

"Do you suppose?" He considers this for a moment. "No, I'm certain it's the handstands."

"The handstands are part of the cultivation."
