Open Post: La savate et le chausson

Much to his satisfaction, Grantaire has been able to keep up with many of his hobbies unabated during his time at the mansion. Not all of them, though, mostly because they were ones he'd go to specific spots for, and with those spots not being here in addition to an abundance of his other hobbies, they more or less fell by the wayside.

However, a recent chat with Dionysus has reminded him that he has very much neglected his 'hitting things' level. Although he didn't find a crash test dummy, the thought being on his mind ended up in him stumbling upon a small gym tucked away, complete with some equipment including a standing punching bag.

So he's discarded his waistcoat and cravat over a bench and is practicing his savate¹.

¹French kickboxing! During R's time it was basically for streetfighting, and just beginning to get formalized, but there are some cool vintage videos on youtube (Here and here) to give the... vibe.

"That's thy next commission. Durian hell. Make us sinners really quake in our boots."

[futaille]

Grantaire laughs, delighted, and opens his mouth to take the grape.

[vineleaves]

Yep, Dionysus is just going to be hand-feeding Grantaire grapes now. He is similarly delighted about this turn of events.

[futaille]

"I think the easiest way to accomplish that would be setting a canvas on the ground and throwing a durian out of an upstairs window onto it."

[sagramore]

"Grantaire."

[futaille]

They're delicious grapes and it's an even more delicious way to eat them, so he's quite happy about the proceedings.

[futaille]

"I know. It's a truly groundbreaking idea."

[sagramore]

"Durian-breaking."

[papadopoulos]

"But that's why France is charming," he says, laughing. "You should tell me more about your Paris sometime; it kind of all blurs together after a while."

[futaille]

"Do you think that might end up sending me to durian hell, though?"

[vineleaves]

"So what all exactly do you remember about being from my time?" he asks after a few grapes have been eaten. "Did that other Étienne leave you with a working knowledge of the internet, or anything?"

[futaille]

"Certainly. Any time you'd like, Apollo Leschenorius."

[futaille]

"Not much, to be honest. It's like a strange dream that I have bits and pieces of, but no real context for them."

[sagramore]

"A crime against the body of our god? It's quite possible."

[futaille]

"All in the name of art, though!"

[sagramore]

"Is it permissible to desecrate godhead in service of art?"

[futaille]

"Is it desecration, though, if the art is in the service of the god?"

[sagramore]

"A compelling argument. If only we could ask the durian."

[futaille]

"Is there some particular reason we can't ask the durian?"

[sagramore]

"I suppose we could. Thou couldst use thine oracular powers to divine its meaning."

[futaille]

"What better use for them?"

[sagramore]

"What better use!" They're about halfway to the house, but Sagramore turns them back smartly in the directly of the mansion.

[futaille]

Grantaire quite happily goes along with this change of destination.

[sagramore]

It's important, because even though Laertes has created a way to steal electricity from the mansion, and thus they have their mini-fridge, it doesn't magically produce things the way the mansion kitchens do, and where else are they going to get a durian?

[futaille]

It makes absolute sense. A durian is needed to be subject to his oracular capabilities, after all.
