Now that things have managed to settle down after the havoc of this month's event from the mansion spirits, Grantaire has set his sights on a much more organic event. He did as promised and improved upon Enjolras' early attempt at a flier. It even passed Apollo's judgment and was printed. So now Grantaire is dutifully walking around the mansion with a stack of fliers to post them in whatever public areas he comes across, even venturing outside to hang them up in outbuildings, and enough were printed that there are plenty of extras to be handed out personally if anyone seems curious.

He's of course sure not everyone will come, but the more people do, the more it will seem right, as far as he's concerned, so he's perfectly willing to pitch the event to anyone who seems the least bit amenable to one. Apparently he can stay on task with proper motivation.

"You are never dull company, I assure you, even were you not to speak a word." He looks for a momemt as if he might go on, very probably with overwrought metaphors, but he subsides and just returns to studying the domino tiles.

“Mm. Courfeyrac would be proud, I am not reading Rousseau today.” It is difficult to let himself relax; but he is getting there, especially with the warmth of the fire helping.

[futaille]

He laughs a little and starts to array dominoes on the floor in front of him, deciding to play an ad hoc game with himself. "You say Courfeyrac and not Combeferre, so I assume you aren't reading about moths."

[untamedantinous]

He rolls his eyes a little, fondly. “No, I am reading Balzac. Are you going to play against yourself, then?”

[futaille]

"In that case, you're right. Courfeyrac would be pleased." He grins. "And yes, that's my plan, unless you think it will disturb you. Possibly even if it will disturb you. Best to get both my first win and first loss with the set out of the way."

[untamedantinous]

“I do not think it will; and you are welcome to stay even if it does. I, ah.” He softens a little, smiling. “You are good company.”

[futaille]

He laughs a little as he mixes up his tiles. "Careful, you might ruin my reputation."

[untamedantinous]

“Mm,” with a bit of a smirk. “I think most everyone here would agree with me, in some way or another.”

[futaille]

"The slander," he says somewhat dryly. "However will I stand it." He draws a couple of dominoes hands and starts to play.

[untamedantinous]

“If I were to say I have, at times, found you irritating; I am sure I would have at least three if not four gentlemen ready to come to blows with me over it.” But he’s clearly gently teasing, half paying attention to his book as well.

[futaille]

He continues playing, his voice going a bit wry. "I assure you, I would be the first to leap to your defense, as well as my own. I would not have the hard work I put in to irritate you impugned so easily."

[untamedantinous]

"Ah, yes, we must of course bring that into consideration," equally wry. "My apologies."

[futaille]

"You're forgiven," he says airily, waving a hand in between plays. "And be grateful for my mercy."

[untamedantinous]

"What would it look like if you were not merciful?" He asks, curious. "At the present moment, of course."

[futaille]

He pauses in the process of drawing a domino. "You know, I hadn't thought about that." He places it down on the array. "Probably a demonstration of my finely honed skills of irritation."

[untamedantinous]

"Bear in mind, I have already witnessed that many times. It may no longer have an effect on me." They both know that's hardly true, but he's still teasing, a little.

[futaille]

"You make a good point," he says agreeably. "Clearly I would have to go to my second option which would be ignoring you entirely." And speaking of things they both know, they both know that would never actually happen.

[untamedantinous]

"Ah, a truly terrible fate." He makes an amused noise and settles back into reading, one hand falling to his lap as he shifts his weight.

[futaille]

He laughs a little and settles in himself, returning his attention to his game as well.

[untamedantinous]

There is silence for a while, Lucien absorbed in his reading and relaxed with the warm weight of Grantaire leaning against his legs. Eventually, perhaps it is unconsciously, his hand drifts towards his knee, where Grantaire is equally absorbed in his game.

Grantaire is very much absorbed in his game. It's an interesting challenge, playing both sides and trying not to let your knowledge of the opposing tiles influence your play. He barely even notices Enjolras' slight movements.

That is alright, because Enjolras is hardly noticing them himself. It’s very similar to he and Courfeyrac studying together at home; they did that often enough that it was truly second nature to give in to Courfeyrac’s absent leans and touches. So it is without another thought that his hand slips a little further down, until it is absently playing with one of Grantaire’s curls.

He stills for a moment at the feel of Enjolras's fingers in his hair, his hand frozen on the piece he just placed. It's just a short moment, though, before he exhales and leans just a bit into the contact, a small soft smile crossing his face as he returns to his game. Fool though he may be, he's not enough of a fool to ruin this by actually bringing attention to it.

“Have you won your game yet?” He asks with some amusement, turning the page in his book. Now that he’s drawn himself out of Balzac, he does notice where his hand is; but he will not draw attention to it either if Grantaire doesn’t.

"Not quite, although I believe I'm on the precipice of it. Or of losing, depending on your perspective, I suppose."
